Summary
In September 2023, the City contracted with the Artist Couple LLC to design an artwork concept for the Brookhollow Trail underpass at Railroad Avenue.
Artist's inspiration for the artwork concept: “The Trail Underpass at Railroad Avenue has infinite potential to be a vibrant, memorable and interactive space. The “Train of Thought” mural concept is designed to engage and captivate the community and will be particularly valuable for the children at the nearby Brookhollow Elementary School, or anyone who frequently walks this trail. Integrating over 100 idioms in a playful and imaginative manner, this mural serves as a dynamic learning tool while celebrating the fusion of language, pop culture and visual art. It engages both children and adults through its whimsical design and hidden references and provides an interactive learning experience by referencing idioms, language nuances, and various animals with human characteristics.The design incorporates a majority of English idioms, however also includes some Spanish idioms to ensure inclusivity and celebrate linguistic diversity. The mural will encourage exploration, discovery and perhaps some friendly community competition with the option to create an idiom scavenger hunt. The “Train of Thought” mural is more than a visual spectacle, it’s an interactive learning platform that transcends generational gaps, sparking curiosity and fostering a sense of togetherness within the community. This mural aims to leave a lasting impact, serving as a catalyst for discussions about language, culture, and the vibrant tapestry that connects us all."
