Approving the purchase and installation of a new playground for Heritage Park in the amount of $297,546.70, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.
Summary
The existing playground in Heritage Park, located at 901 Old Austin Hutto Road, was installed in 2004. The industry standard for playground replacement is 15 years and this project is a part of the City's ongoing playground replacement program. The City has successfully lowered the average age of the city's playgrounds from 11.63 in 2021 to 8.67 in 2023. This replacement, with the others scheduled for this calendar year, would reduce the average age of our playgrounds to 4.76 by end of 2024.
The concept for this playground is a custom design and was designed to compliment the Green Red Barn and remind people of the agriculture heritage of the Pflugerville community.
This project is being funded with parkland escrow funds and being purchased through a BuyBoard vendor, contract # 679-22.
Heritage Park is the 6th most visited park in our park system with an average of 47,700 annual visits last year and an average dwell time of 113 minutes.
This playground improvement supports City Council strategic goals to engage the community through vibrant parks and recreation services, and meets the goal of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan to improve health infrastructure for youth and families.
