Title

Approving the procurement of an air compressor system in the amount of $72,712 and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.

Summary

The City’s River Pump Station that is responsible for the transfer of raw water from the Colorado River to Lake Pflugerville has an air compressor system that periodically bursts air through the intake screens to clear debris that accumulates on the screens during normal operation.  The existing air compressors for the air burst system are well past their useful life and have been in operation since the facility was first put online in 2005.  While staff have been maintaining the existing air compressors, finding parts for the equipment has become troublesome given their age.  The existing air compressors are also oil-driven compressors which is not something that the City should have at this facility due to the fact that a failure of the oil-driven compressors could leak oil into the Colorado River or into the wet well that sends water to Lake Pflugerville.

In the budget for Fiscal Year 2023, City staff allocated funds to replace the air compressors to allow the infrastructure to continue to function for many years and to address issues with the current compressor installation. City staff contacted numerous vendors to supply and install the compressors that we have used on numerous other compressor projects and contacted numerous suppliers on the Secretary of State’s CMBL to locate and notify HUBs of our intent to purchase a new compressor system.  After this search and bidding, it was determined that 3C Industrial, LLC was the lowest bidder for the procurement at a cost of $72,712. The City has worked with 3C on a previous compressor project and have a good working relationship with them.

This purchase supports the Infrastructure pillar of the City’s Strategic Plan as this will allow for the City’s River Pump Station to continue to provide raw water to the City and supports resilient water infrastructure.
