PFLUGERVILLE PKWY; TO BE KNOWN AS THE HCBC-ATHLETIC FIELD LIGHTING SPECIFIC USE PERMIT (SUP1102-01).
Summary
Provisions for athletic field lighting were recently added within the Unified Development Code. Under the new requirement, athletic fields that require lighting are subject to review through the specific use permit process. The Austin Texans Soccer Club has applied to install lights at the recently constructed practice fields behind the Hill Country Bible Church, between Black Locust Dr. and Pflugerville Pkwy. A total of six (6) poles, 60 feet in height are proposed generally at the corners of the field while two poles are proposed approximately 1/3 of the way into the field. All luminaires are proposed as1500 watt, metal halide light lamps, with shields to direct the light downward. Lighting is proposed Monday through Thursday between the hours of 5:30 pm and 9:30 pm. On-site control switches are proposed to ensure lights can be controlled at the field and are turned off by 10 pm. The proposed lighting meets the conditions outlined in the UDC and additional efforts have been taken to reduce impacts to the surrounding residential property, including proposing a limited number of poles, reducing the number of luminaires per pole, reducing light levels, increasing distance from neighboring property, and limiting authorized time period within the week.
