Approving the procurement of a crane truck bed in the amount of $93,056, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.
Summary
City staff currently utilizes an existing crane that is used to pull a variety of heavy equipment at both our water and wastewater treatment plants, wastewater lift stations, and water pump stations. This crane is mounted to a bed and is attached to one of our fleet trucks that can support the crane as well as the equipment that is being lifted. The crane and bed are well past their useful life after they have been in service since 2006. The existing crane has been sent for service multiple times and is now unable to lift a large amount of our equipment across the facilities.
As the City's truck has already been modified and equipped to be outfitted with a crane bed made by Knapheide, they are the sole source to be able to provide this type of crane bed for our existing truck. If we were to go with another manufacturer, we would be forced to spend additional funds to outfit our existing truck to match a new crane system. KnapHeide has agreed to the City’s standard Purchasing Rider as part of this procurement. This item is budgeted in the FY2023 budget under the Utility Administration division under the Capital Outlay.
This purchase supports the Infrastructure pillar of the City’s Strategic Plan as this will allow staff to maintain various water and wastewater infrastructure to ensure that we continue to maintain operability of our wastewater collection system at all times.
