Approving the service continuation of 28 Flock Falcon Cameras and licensing from Flock Safety in the amount of $86,000 using awarded fiscal year Department of Justice Project Safe Neighborhood Grant funds, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.

 

Summary

The Pflugerville Police Department was again awarded a Project Safe Neighborhood Grant award in the amount of $99,600.00 from the Office of the Governor for the continued funding of personnel overtime and use of equipment for the license plate reader program which was funded with a Fiscal Year 2022 and Fiscal Year 2023 PSN Grant.  This system continues to successfully be used to identify, apprehend, and recover stolen vehicles entering the city limits and named “hot spots” within the city.  The Camera systems further assist in identifying known wanted suspects, assists in solving violent crimes, and assists in tracking known suspects linked to crimes within this and surrounding jurisdictions.

 

 

Prior City Council Action

In November of 2020, City Council authorized the City to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding between Flock Group, Inc (Flock Safety) and the City of Pflugerville for access to Flock’s technology platform (the Flock Service) for investigative purposes.

 

In February of 2021, City Council authorized the City Manager to apply for, and accept if awarded, a Department of Justice Project Safe Neighborhood Grant for the purchase and implementation of Flock Safety cameras.

 

In April of 2022, City Council authorized the City Manager to apply for, and accept if awarded, a Department of Justice Project Safe Neighborhood Grant for the expansion of Flock Safety cameras and overtime .

 

In April of 2023, City Council authorized the City Manager to apply for, and accept if awarded, a Department of Justice Project Safe Neighborhood Grant for the continued operation of Flock Safety cameras and overtime.
