Title

Authorizing the City Manager to purchase a replacement utility jet truck from Rush Truck Centers in the amount of $197,017.00 using budgeted fiscal year 2021 funds and utilizing the Buyboard purchasing cooperative contract.

Summary

The City currently has one jet truck that is used to clear any sewer blockages in the City's wastewater system or to clear any debris in our wastewater trunk lines that could accumulate over time.  The current jet truck was purchased in 2002 and is well past it’s end-of-life for heavy equipment and most parts on the truck have either become difficult to find or obsolete and staff have been making other parts work so the equipment can continue to serve the Utility.  The jet truck is made of two components:  the truck itself and the jet equipment mounted to the truck.  The current model of jet truck that our staff are already trained on is the PipeHunter brand which limits the training that staff need to undergo in order to operate the unit effectively.  Texas Underground is the sole source provider of the PipeHunter brand and will supply the product to a fleet vehicle manufacturer.  Rush Truck Centers will take that jet equipment and modify it to a Peterbilt Truck Chassis.  Rush Truck Centers is the authorized dealer for Peterbilt trucks and the quote for the vehicle was acquired through Rush Truck Center's BuyBoard contract.  BuyBoard contracts work as a way for government entities to purchase goods and services cooperatively to get the best possible price that they can.  State and local governments can use these contracts to purchase materials through a vendor and have guaranteed pricing that has already been competitively bid.

This capital purchase accounted for in the FY2021 Utility Maintenance Department budget and was approved by Council to replace this fiscal year.
