Summary
During our last regular City Council meeting on December 14, 2021, City Council approved a Community Engagement Grant in the amount of $150,000 from PCDC for the purchase of an outdoor fitness station. This agenda item is to authorize expenditures of these grant funds for purchase and installation of the outdoor fitness station from National Fitness Campaign.
As mentioned previously, Pflugerville was one of 15 cities in Texas to receive a $30,000 grant from the National Fitness Campaign through the Texas Recreation and Parks Society (TRAPS), which reduced the cost of this project from $180,000 to $150,000. Following grant approval from TRAPS, Parks staff requested a $150,000 Community Engagement Grant from PCDC to cover the remaining cost associated with this amenity as part of PCDCs annual commitment to fund City park projects and received unanimous approval from their Board of Directors on November 17, 2021.
Not only will this project enhance our trail system and quality of life by providing a unique outdoor fitness opportunity, but the design also allows for branding which could be used as gateway signage depending on the location. We currently plan to locate this amenity along E Pecan Street pending final site feasibility analysis, at which point a formal timeline will be established for installation.
