Approving a professional services agreement with Parker’s Choice Consulting in the amount of $294,500.00 for the second phase of the Wireless Master Plan and authorizing the City Manager to execute said agreement.
Summary
Phase 1 of the Wireless Master Plan was the SCADA Wireless Mesh Backup and Infrastructure plan from FY20. Phase 1 allowed radio towers to be placed at water towers to communicate with each other wirelessly. Phase 2 will place additional wireless points at 28 other water and water waste sites. Once activated, it will allow for private, secure wireless connectivity to run throughout the city providing infrastructure needed for Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) and other potential smart city initiatives.
The FY21 budget line item for this project is incorrectly labeled as “Wireless Master Plan Phase 1: Installation of Fiberlines to Towers.” While fiber lines would support and provide redundancy for the Wireless Master plan, this will need to be further evaluated and included in a future budget. Instead, we will use these funds in this FY21 budget line item as originally intended, along with funds from the 5-year Utility CIP fund, to support phase 2 of the Wireless Master Plan.
Prior City Council Action
City Council authorized the SCADA Wireless Mesh Backup and Infrastructure plan as part of the FY20 budget on September 24, 2019.
City Council authorized the Wireless Master Plan Phase 1: Installation of Fiberlines to Towers as part of the FY 21 budget on August 25, 2020.
