Summary
The existing playground at Zola Park, located at 17401 Zola Ln, is 12 years old and was installed in 2012. This replacement includes an updated playground, new fitness amenities, new shade coverings, new safety surfacing, and the conversion of existing decomposed granite trail to concrete trail. New amenities will allow for a wide range of use for both youth and adults. The trail conversion from decomposed granite to concrete is in line with the City's ADA Transition Plan.
The City has successfully lowered the average age of the city’s playgrounds from 11.63 in 2021 to 8.00 today. This replacement will see the average age of our playgrounds drop to 7.60 at the completion of this project.
Funds being used for the playground portion (Phase 1) of this project are from Parkland Escrow supplied by residential development. Funds being used for the trail conversion and new fitness equipment (Phase 2) are from American Rescue Plan Act funds. The vendor is a Buyboard vendor, contract #679-22.
This playground improvement supports City Council strategic goals to engage the community through vibrant parks and recreation services and meets the goal of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan to improve health infrastructure for youth and families.
