Summary
The existing playground located at Gilleland Creek Park is 19 years old and was installed in 2004. The industry standard for playground replacement is 15 years and this project is a part of the city's ongoing playground replacement program. The city has successfully lowered the average age of the city's playgrounds from 11.63 in 2021 to 8.33 today. This replacement will see our average age of our playgrounds drop to 7.70 at the completion of this project.
The city received a matching grant from Gametime for the purchase of the equipment ($82,073.90) and are using the savings to add shade and safety surfacing to enhance this park's user experience. These improvements will extend the play value of our park by expanding the amenities and offerings for the users of these spaces.
Funds being used for this project are from the Parkland Escrow account supplied by residential developers and the matching grant from the playground manufacturer Gametime. The vendor is a buybord vendor, contract #679-22.
Gilleland Creek is the 5th most visited park in our park system with an average of 57,500 annual visits and an average dwell time of 1 hour and 28 minutes.
This playground improvement supports City Council strategic goals to engage the community through vibrant parks and recreation services.
