Title

Weight Room Equipment Lease Agreement with Marathon Fitness, Inc. in the amount of $96,765.18 for the first year for The Monarch Recreation Center.

Summary

This item considers approval of a 5-year lease with Marathon Fitness, Inc., a BuyBoard vendor and Precor provider, for cardio equipment at The Monarch Recreation Center in Downtown East.

The Monarch Recreation Center is scheduled to open in early 2027 and will serve as a premier community recreation destination and one of the largest municipal recreation centers in Texas. The fitness floor and weight room are among the most important components of the facility, as they serve as a primary driver of memberships, daily usage, and long-term member retention. High-quality, modern cardio equipment is essential to delivering the level of service and member experience expected from a flagship facility of this scale.

The lease includes treadmills, ellipticals, adaptive motion trainers, recumbent bikes, stair climbers, Peloton bikes and rowers, indoor cycles, rowing machines, upper body ergometers, NuStep accessible equipment, and associated preventative maintenance and warranties. The total equipment value is $385,013.19, with annual lease payments of $96,765.18 for five years. At the conclusion of the lease term, the City will have the option to purchase the equipment or replace it with new equipment. This lease is separate from the purchase of free weight equipment through the contract with Griffin Swinerton.

This procurement is being completed through the BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative, providing competitive pricing and compliance with procurement requirements. Marathon Fitness is also the City’s current provider for leased recreation center fitness equipment, supporting operational consistency and service continuity.

This item supports the Community Amenities and Events pillar of the Strategic Plan.
