Title

Discuss and consider action to approve an ordinance on first reading with the caption reading: An ordinance amending and updating the City of Pflugerville Code of Ordinances, Title IX. General Regulations, Chapter 95, Parks and Recreation, Article III, Protection of Lake Pflugerville to provide for amended regulations in use of Lake Pflugerville and the surrounding lands; providing cumulative, repealer and severability clauses; providing for open meeting and establishing an effective date.

Summary

The City’s Lake Pflugerville Ordinance, Article III, Protection of Lake Pflugerville, was last updated in 2019. The proposed changes follow evolving community needs and increased lake usage. The proposed changes aims to improve public safety, protect environmental resources, and enhance recreational experiences.

The changes include establishing peak season hours of operation from March 1 to September 30, with daily hours adjusted from 5 a.m.-10 p.m. to 6 a.m.-9 p.m. While fishing and trail access will remain available outside of these hours, the gated parking lot will be closed.

Additional updates clarify that only electric motors are allowed on the lake, grill usage will be limited during burn bans, and alcohol is prohibited. The City’s Noise Control Ordinance (Chapter 94) will also apply to the lake and surrounding public lands and trails, except when a temporary permit is granted under Section 94.07(B) for the use of a public address or amplified sound system.

This item is supported by the Safety pillar of the Strategic Plan.
