Title
Presentation and discuss and consider action regarding designating names for the community park and sports complex and neighborhood parks.
Summary
This item has been included on the agenda to allow for presentation, discussion and possible action.
Since the February 23, 2016 Council discussion on naming the new community park and sports complex, the city has received suggested names from the community. From the "sports complex", to" the new park", to "the community park and sports complex," the current land has a lot of nicknames. The public was invited to submit names by March 30, 2016.
In addition, two new parks are in need of names: the park located near Stone Hill Town Center and the park located near Wild Basin in the Highland Park subdivision. A video and the city's website provided information on how to submit names for these two specific parks or other parks developed in the future. Almost 90 names were sent to NameYourParks@Pflugervilletx.gov. Attached is the complete list of submissions.
Following review of the list and input from the community, staff is recommending naming the community parks and sports complex 1849 Park. This name recognizes the year that Mr. Henry Pfluger came to the area and began to establish his family and descendants' role in the development of the Pflugerville community. The information attached to the agenda item came from the Texas State Historical Association.
Staff is also recommending naming the park located near the Stone Hill Town Center Stone Hill Park; and the park located near Wild Basin in the Highland Park subdivision Wilbarger Creek Park.

Staff Recommendation
Preserve the heritage and history of the land proposed for the community park and sports complex by designating the iconic name 1849 Park.
