Summary
The Parks and Recreation Department proposes renovations and enhancements to the Wells Point Sports Park Athletic Fields at a cost of $230,000. This project includes the removal of existing grasses, releveling by laser grade, reinstallation of irrigation heads, and the installation of approximately 170,000 sq/ft of TifTuf Bermuda sod on Fields 4-10. TifTuf Bermuda turfgrasses are specifically generated for high-traffic use at athletic facilities.
These improvements will mirror the improvements performed to the other half of the soccer fields (fields 1-3) performed by the same contractor last summer. Those improvements held up well throughout the year and were well received by the soccer community. The overall budget for this park improvement is $979,705 and was approved in the current 5-Year Capital Improvement Program. The remaining funds will be used for other infrastructure improvements and will be brought back to council on a separate item at a later date.
The designated vendor is Ryan Sanders Sports Turf Services (RS3) and is a BuyBoard vendor under contract #641-21. RS3 is locally-based and currently maintains athletic fields within the parks and recreation department's offerings. RS3 completed improvements on Fields 1-3 in FY23.
