Title

Approving a contract for traffic signal radio installation to Austin Traffic Signal, the lowest responsible bidder of two (2) bids received on January 19, 2022, in the amount of $66,750 and establish a contingency in the amount of $15,000 for a total authorization amount not to exceed $81,750, and authorizing the City Manager to execute same.

Summary

As part of the City’s traffic signal improvements identified in the Pflugerville Signal System Assessment and Improvements Plan, one of the critical steps is to establish a robust communications infrastructure in order to enable the deployment of an Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) which is incorporated in the current fiscal year budget. To prepare the City to integrate such a system, Council previously authorized the purchases of the needed components such as Ethernet switches which are needed to make the wireless radios functional and to provide connectivity to future Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices at the intersection (such as CCTV cameras, Bluetooth & Radar devices etc.), and traffic signal radios which will enable integration of signal controllers into the traffic signal communication network, allowing remote monitoring, reporting, and controlling of signal timings from a centralized location, as needed.

With the ethernet switches and traffic signal radios now procured, the next step would be to have the traffic signal radios installed at the signal locations. Staff bid the installation project and received two bids on January 19, 2022 with the low bidder being Austin Traffic Signal.
