Title

Approving the procurement of a valve maintenance trailer in the amount of $62,910, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.

Summary

As part of the fiscal year 2025 budget, staff had allocated funding to procure a valve maintenance trailer for ongoing maintenance to the existing main line water valves that we have throughout the water distribution network.  This trailer is intended to safely operate the large number of water isolation valves that we have across the City without the need for an employee to manually exercise each valve.  This equipment allows for the automatic exercising of a valve to ensure that the valve is both opened and closed to the manufacturer’s specifications to minimize the potential of damage to the valve.  This equipment also has the ability to clear out underground valve stacks to ensure the valve stem can be accessed without the need to mobilize one of the larger pieces of heavy equipment that the City currently has.  By having this equipment on the valve exercising trailer, it minimizes wait time on other equipment to mobilized and also ensures enhanced efficiency across the City for our various work groups.

This equipment is budgeted in the FY2025 capital equipment budget under “Valve Maintenance Trailer” and funding of $83,000 was allocated for this fiscal year.  As we made some modifications to the equipment to ensure we only acquired what we needed as part of the procurement, we were able to save roughly $20,000 compared to what we had originally contemplated when compiling requests for FY2025’s budget.  This equipment procurement meets the City’s strategic goal of infrastructure by ensuring that City staff can maintain existing infrastructure to ensure operability at all times by being more efficient in how we manage the valve maintenance program.
