Title
Proclamation designating July 2012 as Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Pflugerville.
Summary
In 2009, the 111th Congress of the United States declared the month of July as National Park and Recreation Month.  Since 1985, the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) and all Americans have celebrated July as the nation's official Park and Recreation Month.  This year NRPA's theme is "Get Wild about Parks and Recreation!"  NRPA encourages agencies to recognize the importance of parks and recreation facilities and express support for the designation of the month of July as National Park and Recreation Month. NRPA is asking agencies to have their local government officially designate July 2012 as Park and Recreation Month.

Parks and recreation connect people both young and old to the opportunities, places, and inspiration that keep us going in mind and in body. Parks and recreation provide opportunities for our community to be active, healthy, and thriving, now and in the future. The community is invited to create a healthy habit by getting out to a park, trail, playground, swimming pool, natural area, or other public space during the month of July in celebration of National Park and Recreation month.
The Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan outlines five goals that support the community's overall vision of a system of high quality parks and the network of connected trails that make Pflugerville the most desirable community in Central Texas. The activities planned by the City of Pflugerville Parks and Recreation Department for the month of July encourage the community to get out and be active in the parks and trail system.
Fiscal Impact
The projected cost associated with the planned activities will be reflected in the operating account for the Parks Department and is a minimal amount.
