Discuss and consider action to direct the City Manager to proceed with development of practice space at the City's water treatment plant.
Summary
As the City has experienced tremendous growth in population, there has also been a significant increase in the demand for sports fields. This demand includes both game fields and practice spaces. Some of this demand will be eventually satisfied with the new sports complex that was approved by the voters in November 2014, but there is an immediate need for more practice space that staff believes can be partially addressed in the near term.
The City currently has approximately 25 acres that is immediately adjacent to the water treatment plant on Weiss Ln. that is undeveloped and available for use. Staff is proposing to develop that 25 acres as a practice facility that will include irrigated and lighted practice pods and practice fields, as well as associated parking and restroom facilities.
Staff developed the attached concept using the following parameters:
3,000 sq ft restroom facility required
Practice pod size - 600' x 420'
Practice field size - U11 - 360' x 220'
Parking required - 100 cars per pod and 50 cars per field
Additional concepts/configurations may be possible with the use of additional property.
Staff will present the concept plan and cost estimates and seek direction.
