Title
Approving the purchase and installation of artificial turf for the Gilleland Creek Pool complex in the amount of $97,272.51, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.
Summary
This item is for the approval of artificial turf installation inside the Gilleland Creek Pool complex. The existing natural grass at Gilleland Creek Pool (700 N Railroad Ave) causes issues with clippings ending up in the pool and pool filtration system. The natural grasses increase maintenance, water retention issues, and the even lead to the presence of mud during swim meets and other high traffic special events. To address these concerns and improve safety, accessibility, and the overall user experience, the City is looking to install approximately 6,551 square feet of ForeverLawn K9 Classic artificial turf at the pool facility. The K9 application specifically was chosen due to it's superior permeable layer for drainage purposes. This installation will take place in the grass lawn next to the bathhouse (3,975 sq. ft.) and the area surrounding the pool deck near the entrance gate (2,576 sq. ft.).
This turf product is specifically designed for high-use public environments and includes edge-to-edge drainage, AlphaSan antimicrobial protection, and a flow-through backing to ensure superior cleanliness, durability, and safety for both daily visitors and event participants. The installation includes ground preparation, demolition of existing sod, and the addition of composite perimeter boards and limestone screenings for drainage. The product carries a 15-year product warranty and 2-year installation warranty.
Aquatic facility improvements are budgeted in Capital Outlay in FY25. The vendor, ForeverLawn Austin, will complete the installation through Sourcewell Contract #031622-FVL.
This improvement aligns with the City Council's Strategic Goal to engage the community through vibrant parks and recreation services, as outlined in the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan. Additionally, th...
