Authorizing the City Manager to renew a sludge hauling contract with Sheridan Environmental for the hauling of wastewater biosolids in the amount of $545 per truck.
Summary
As part of the wastewater treatment process, we currently dewater the solids from the process using centrifuges that make a solid cake that needs to be hauled away and disposed of in a terminal landfill or in a facility that has a biosolids composting operation. The City of Pflugerville staff solicited sealed bids in 2019 for the hauling of dewatered sludge from the Central Wastewater Plant. Advertisements were placed in the Pflugerville Pflag for two consecutive weeks and notice of the bid was on the City's website for the duration. The attached contract documents shows the original contract that was approved by City Council at the September 24, 2019 regular City Council meeting. This contract has the option for 2 (two) annual renewals.
Sheridan Environmental has been the contractor for the City of Pflugerville for dewatered sludge hauling since 2011 and we have had a great working relationship with them as our dewatered sludge hauling company. This renewal will be the last year of this contract and City Staff will go out for bids on another contract in FY23. This is currently budgeted in the Wastewater Treatment operating budget under Sludge Disposal. The price for the sludge hauling has been $545 per truck for the extent of this contract and has not been increased over the course of the contract. The price on the previous sludge hauling contract from 2016-2019 was $495 per truck.
