Title
Approving the purchase and installation of shade canopies for the Gilleland Creek Pool in the amount of $58,979, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.

Summary
This item is for the approval of shade canopies inside the Gilleland Creek Pool complex. The pool deck and seating areas at Gilleland Creek Pool (700 N Railroad Ave) are currently wide open to the sun, creating challenging conditions for swim meets, Summer Pfun Camp, and daily community use during peak heat. To improve comfort, usability, and safety, the City is looking to install new shade canopies totaling approximately 2,000 square feet of coverage at the pool facility. The project will include two 25'x40' canopies placed side by side to create a 50'x40' shaded area in the northeast portion of the pool complex.

The shade structures are designed for high-use public spaces, providing UV protection and a cooler environment for both daily visitors and event participants. The installation includes structural supports, fabric canopies, and all necessary site preparation to ensure long-term durability and safety. The shaded area will also complement the artificial turf installation proposed in this Council agenda, working together to create a comfortable social space for patrons. The purchase and installation will be completed by Playwell and Playworks (Buyboard #679-22).

Aquatic facility improvements are budgeted in Capital Outlay in FY25.

This improvement aligns with the City Council's Strategic Goal to engage the community through vibrant parks and recreation services, as outlined in the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan. Additionally, the project supports the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan goals to provide safer and more inclusive spaces, particularly in high-use aquatic environments. According to the 2023 statistically valid survey from the Master Plan, 92% of respondents identified pool amenities and cleanliness as essential to quality of life. This project also advances t...
