Review representation and discuss and consider action to appoint three representatives to the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) General Assembly.
Summary
The City of Pflugerville is over 50,000 in population and therefore qualifies for three positions on the CAPCOG General Assembly. Currently, Mayor Victor Gonzales, Mayor Pro Tem Omar Peña and Councilmember Mike Heath are appointed to serve on the General Assembly as the City of Pflugerville's representatives. This item has been included on the agenda to allow the City Council to review its representation and take action to change representation if desired.
The next meeting of the CAPCOG General Assembly will take place virtually on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
Only members of the CAPCOG General Assembly can be appointed to the CAPCOG Executive Committee. The appointments to the CAPCOG Executive Committee are made by CAPCOG. Councilmember Heath currently serves on the CAPCOG Executive Committee. Councilmember Heath also serves on CAPCOG's Clean Air Coalition with a term ending in December 2021.
Prior City Council Action
The City Council took action on November 22, 2016, to appoint Mayor Gonzales, Mayor Pro Tem Peña and Councilmember Heath to serve as General Assembly representatives. The City Council reconfirmed these appointments on November 28, 2017, November 27, 2018 and September 10, 2019.
