Summary
The Pfear Haunted House is a seasonal community event organized by Black Locust Studios, held previously on the Gin Tract, and in 2024 is proposed to be hosted at 1849 Park. The event, running over six operating days in late October and early November, offers entertainment to the Pflugerville community in the form of a haunted maze attraction. The event is expected to draw 100-150 attendees per night, with a total projection of 1,200 visitors. Moving the event to 1849 Park provides the needed infrastructure to expand operations.
This year, the event requires a License Agreement as it utilizes City property. As per the fee schedule, any special event permits needing a License Agreement must have the fee set by City Council. Staff has reviewed the use of similar spaces and recommends a $300 fee for this event. Event days will be October 24-26, October 30-31, and November 1, with teardown and site turnover concluding by November 11.
This event supports the City’s goal of providing engaging, family-friendly activities that enhance the quality of life in Pflugerville, while utilizing City resources effectively.
The proposed fee is in alignment with the City’s strategic goals of community engagement and maintaining fairness in the use of public spaces for private events. Approval of this item will allow the event to proceed as planned, offering the community a safe and enjoyable seasonal celebration.
The event will comply with all local regulations, and Black Locust Studios will be responsible for setup, staffing, and safety measures, as well as restoring the property to its original condition following the event.
