Discuss and consider action regarding a request for a variance to Section DG8.1A of the Engineering Design Guidelines to allow for the extension of overhead utilities to serve a proposed single family residence located at 497 East Pfluger Street.
Summary
The City's Engineering Design Guidelines Section DG8.1A requires that all utility lines be placed underground. Overhead utilities are proposed to serve a future single family residence located at 497 East Pfluger Street. As designed by Oncor, the overhead lines would extend west along the south side of East Pfluger Street from an existing pole located on East Pfluger Street. Overhead utilities currently do exist in the area.
A letter of intent prepared by Mr. and Mrs. Weitkemper and an exhibit are attached.
Per the Engineering Design Guidelines, variance requests shall be submitted in writing to the City Engineer for consideration and within 21 days, a written report with a recommendation shall be provided to the City Council in order to act on the variance.
A vicinity map is also attached for reference. This map reflects the exhibit submitted with the request as well as illustrates the limits of the subject residential lot.
Status
The plat for the subject lot is scheduled for approval at the December 16th Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

September 24, 2013; REZ 1307-02, approved rezoning of property from Retail (R) to Single Family Urban (SF-S).

Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends approval with the following conditions: Service from new overhead pole to the new home is required to be installed underground AND concurrence from property owner located at 501 East Pfluger Street that installation of new overhead electric is acceptable.
