Approving the purchase and installation of a new playground, safety surfacing, and shade covers at Central Park at Falcon Pointe, located at 18720 Falcon Pointe Blvd., in the amount of $441,310, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.
Summary
The existing playground at Central Park at Falcon Pointe was installed in 2007, making the amenity 17 years old. This replacement includes an updated playground to include the incorporation of a built-in slide and other amenities included in a sloped berm just outside the current play area, new multi-sail shade system, and additional amenities that expand the footprint of the playground to include all ages. The City has successfully lowered the average age of playgrounds from 11.63 in 2021 to 8.00 today. This replacement, in addition to the ongoing renovations at Zola Park and Falcon Pointe Splash Park, will see the average age of our playgrounds below 5 years. This project will also bring our percentage of shaded playgrounds within the Parks and Recreation system to 100%.
Funds used for this project are from Parkland Escrow, which is supplied by residential development. The vendor, Fun Abounds, Inc., is a BuyBoard vendor, contract #679-22.
This playground improvement supports City Council strategic goals to engage the community through vibrant parks and recreation services and meets the goal of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan to improve health infrastructure for youth and families.
