Title
Discuss and consider action to authorize the City Manager to approve the purchase of pumps, motors, and variable frequency drives for the Pfennig Pump Station Improvements Project from Smith Pump Company in the amount of $581,558.
Summary
The City began the design of the Pfennig Pump Station Improvements project in January 2014. This project includes expansion of the pump station and a new ground storage tank. The pump station has two existing pumps and a 0.5 MG ground storage tank serving customers in the City, Manville Water Supply Corporation (WSC), and Windermere Utility Corporation. The main purpose of this pump station expansion is to accommodate water demands in 2015 and beyond. The City will serve additional customers in the City and North Travis County Municipal Utility District (NTC MUD) #5. The City’s timeline for this project to be operating by February of 2015 requires a fast-track design schedule. This fast-track design includes pre-purchase of certain long-lead equipment items that may slow down construction. Included in these pre-purchase materials are the two new vertical turbine pumps, motors, and variable frequency drives (VFDs). Bids for this project were open on March 7. The City received two competitive proposals for pre-purchasing vertical turbine pumping units, motors, and VFDs. The proposal with the lowest cost and best overall value as determined by the design team was Smith Pump Company. The bid tabulation is an attachment to this agenda item.
When the general contractor is selected for the Pfennig Pump Station Improvements project, the contract for the pumps, motors and VFDs will be assigned to the selected contractor.
Deadline for City Council Action
To meet the February 2015 deadline, the pumps, motors, and VFDs need to be purchased on April 10th to allow adequate time for the production, testing, delivery and installation.
Fiscal Impact
This project is included in the 2014 budget as part of the Utility Capital Improvem...
