Discuss and consider existing subdivision street design standards.
Summary
The Planning and Zoning Commission met with the City Council in a joint worksession on April 12th as a matter of practice. In the course of the discussion, staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission were encouraged to evaluate the City’s subdivision requirements for street design to evaluate how they compare with other communities and whether existing regulations impose or restrict a specific design (grid vs. curvilinear).
This item is intended to launch discussion of the findings and determine if additional actions are needed pursuant to the topic.
Status
The Council adopted the Pflugerville 2030 Comprehensive Plan in August 2010. The subdivision of property is the primary means of assuring the consistency of any jurisdiction's long range plan. Pflugerville's subdivision requirements, prior to its integration with the Unified Development Code, were adopted in 1973 and revised in 1980, and 1987 and nearly 20 other times since to address various requirements and processes.

Staff Recommendation
Discuss and provide input and direction as appropriate. On June 6, 2011 the Planning and Zoning Commission discussed the findings and concluded the existing standards generally obtain the desired outcome. A draft copy of the meeting minutes is attached pursuant to this item.
