Title
Procurement of a 2026 John Deere Backhoe Loader in the amount of $114,498.
Summary
The City’s current backhoe is a 2015 John Deere loader. Repair costs for this year total $6,500, with an additional $31,000 in necessary repairs identified. The equipment is now over ten years old and has 4,508 operating hours, which is approaching the threshold typically considered high use. Most municipalities replace backhoes within a 7-10 year lifecycle.
The replacement proposal includes trading in the existing unit for a value of $28,500, which will be applied toward the final purchase price, netting the final purchase price of $114,498.
The new equipment will be procured through John Deere using the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing contract, ensuring compliance with purchasing requirements and enabling direct acquisition through an approved cooperative vendor.
Amendment was approved by council July 14, 2026. Funds have been budgeted in the Vehicle Equipment Replacement Fund, in correspondence with the VERF policy.
This purchase aligns with the City’s infrastructure objectives and supports the Strategic Plan by maintaining reliable equipment essential to operational effectiveness.
