Summary
The existing playground at Barley Field Park, located at 2813 Barley Field Pass, was installed in 2007, making the amenity 18 years old. This replacement includes a new play structure with elements for ages 2-12 and includes built-in shade structures. The installation will also include the addition of swings and a small amenity for ages 2-5. The City has successfully lowered the average age of playgrounds from 11.63 years in 2021 to 5.39 years today. This replacement will see the current average age of our playgrounds to 4.85 years. This project will also continue our standard of providing shade structures to every playground within the park system and keeping the age of our playgrounds inline with industry standards by replacing after the age of 15 years of age.
Funds for this improvement were approved in the current fiscal year through our Annual Park Improvement Outlay. The vendor, Playwell (equipment) and Playworks (installation), are a Buyboard vendor, contract #67922.
This playground improvement supports City Council's strategic goals to engage the community through vibrant parks and recreation services and meets the goal of the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan to improve health infrastructure for youth and families.
