Discussion regarding a Youth Sports Policy and creating a hierarchy of sports organizations.
Summary
The purpose of this agenda item is to discuss the creation of a hierarchy of sports organizations within the proposed Youth Sports Policy. This hierarchy will be used to appropriately allocate the use of field space. Direction from the City Council to city staff is necessary so that it may formalize specific policies and procedures.
The Youth Sports Policy will apply to both youth sport programs offered by the Pflugerville Parks and Recreation Department and youth sports programs operated by partnering organizations that use property under the control of the City, whether owned or leased, and/or receives any form of financial or in-kind support from the City.
Status
The Youth Sports Policy is currently under development. City staff will be bringing components of the policy to City Council for discussion over the next few months and will be requesting feedback and direction at each of these meetings.
The overall philosophy of the proposed policy was discussed with the City Council at the April 8, 2014 worksession.
