Discuss and consider action to authorize the City Manager to execute a contract for the purchase of three connectable steel barges from K.C. Commercial, LLC in the amount of $114,800 with funding from the FY 2013 General Capital Reserve Fund.
Summary
The City of Pflugerville staff solicited sealed bids for the purchase of three connectable barges. The three barges will be connected, placed in Lake Pflugerville, and used as the fireworks platform for the City's annual Pfirecracker Pfestival. The barges will remain in Lake Pflugerville for recreational use throughout the year. Each barge measures 30' long x 8' wide x 3' deep and is constructed of 1/4" A36 plate steel. The barges will be built upon receipt of a City purchase order and the City should take delivery of the barges in 90 to 120 days.
Various options for the fireworks show were analyzed by staff. The two previous shooting locations, the dam and Becker Farm Road, are not ideal due to traffic and fire safety issues. This barge will provide a permanent solution and will make the event more manageable with respect to ingress and egress during the event.
Advertisements were placed in the Austin American Statesman for two consecutive weeks and were on Texas Bid System for the duration of the bid. Eleven (11) vendors downloaded the information for this bid from Texas Bid System. Two qualified bids were received: K.C. Commercial, LLC of Georgetown, Texas at $114,800; and Mid-American Foundation Supply of Fort Wayne, Indiana at $166,700. The bid information from K.C. Commercial, LLC is attached to this agenda item.
Deadline for City Council Action
Action is requested on January 22, 2013. The bidders were notified that this item would be considered at this meeting.
Fiscal Impact
Funding for the barges is included in the proposed 2013 General Capital Reserve fund. The award of these funds is included as a separate item in this agenda.
