Summary
This item has been included on the agenda to discuss and consider the City's participation in the Austin Chamber of Commerce's 2013 Intercity visit to Boston.
 
Delegates will be attending sessions featuring leading practices in medical research, technology commercialization, entrepreneurship and funding, traffic mitigation, and education.
Boston highlights include:
·      Mobility projects so well known they have their own nickname - The BIG DIG
·      Biotechnology hub rated as top life sciences cluster by the Milken Institute
·      Nexus of higher education, venture capital, and commercialization
·      Country's oldest public education system

Action is requested on May 28, 2013.
 
Fiscal Impact
Cost for this year's Intercity visit has not yet been set.  Estimated cost is $2100 per person.  Trip price includes briefing materials, airfare (not including checked baggage fees), ground transportation, accommodations and meals.
 
Last year's pricing:
Early Bird Price (through June 15) $2,095 with flight or $1,795 without flight
Regular Price (June 16 - July 29) $2,195 with flight or $1,895 without flight
Late Price (begins July 30) $2,295 with flight or $1,995 without flight
 
Funds for Council participation would be taken from the Council training and education line item 200-4415 of the Fiscal Year 2013 budget.
