Discuss and consider action to award a construction contract for the Pflugerville Turn Lane project to Cox Commercial Construction, the lowest responsive bidder of six (6) bids received on September 25, 2015, in the amount of $456,016.60.
Summary
The project will include construction of an additional turn lane at the intersection of Grand Ave. Parkway/ Edgemere Dr. and complete reconstruction of the Picadilly Dr./Central Commerce Dr. intersection. The Picadilly Dr./Central Commerce Dr. intersection will incorporate a designated turn lane on Picadilly Drive designed to accommodate the truck traffic in the area. The combined turn lane projects total 950 linear feet of roadway and drainage improvements.
The attached bid tabulation includes the base bid values in which the low bidder was Cox Commercial Construction. The bid received is thirty-one percent (31%) over the engineer’s estimated budget. The overage is attributable to escalating construction costs due to the current demand in the Austin region for construction, and small project quantities spread over several locations.
Status
The project was advertised for bids on September 9, 2015. Six (6) bids were received and opened on September 25, 2015.
Fiscal Impact
This project was included as a part of intersection improvements identified in the 2014-15 Capital Improvement Plan. Funding for construction is from existing bond funds.
Staff Recommendation
City staff recommends awarding the contract for the Pflugerville Turn Lane project to the lowest responsive bidder, Cox Commercial Construction, in the amount of $456,016.60.
