Title

Presentation on electric vehicle charging stations at City facilities.

Summary

The purpose for this item is to discuss current electric vehicle charging stations, the replacement of these units and the option to assess fee’s for providing this service.

Previously at the March 10, 2020 Council meeting, discussion took place regarding a grant application to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Alternative Fueling Facilities Program in order to upgrade and or replace the 8 existing electric vehicle charging stations. At this meeting there was discussion and staff has moved forward with obtaining the grant and funding.

In the City there are currently 8 electric vehicle charging stations available at no charge with 4 located at the library and the other 4 located at Cinemark. These units are approximately 13 years old and are in need of replacement.

In anticipation of replacing these units, staff has received pricing for upgrading the electrical infrastructure, cost for replacing the charging units, as well as received a grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for partial reimbursement of the associated costs.

While the City of Pflugerville currently does not assess fees for providing this service, surrounding Cities that are currently implementing electric vehicle charging stations either presently assess such fees or have intentions to do so in order to offset cost for providing this resource.

While staff has budgeted and is planning to make needed improvements, input is requested regarding charging fees for the use of the charging stations.
