Summary
The city’s firewalls are due for a replacement. Firewalls are essential for network security as they act as a barrier between your internal network and external threats from the internet. They monitor and control incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules, blocking unauthorized access while permitting legitimate communication. By preventing malicious activities such as hacking, viruses, and data breaches, firewalls help protect sensitive information and maintain the integrity and availability of your systems. This makes them a crucial component in any comprehensive cybersecurity strategy.
The city proposes that we move to Palo Alto firewalls for this replacement. We also propose a three-year subscription as increasing subscription fees have caused the city issues in the past.
FY24 budget allocated $80,000 for a 1-year contract.
