Title
Approving a resolution designating Bohls Park as the location for the 2020 General Obligation Bond Destination Playspace project.
Summary
In November 2020, Pflugerville voters approved $42.3 million in general obligation bonds for Parks and Recreation initiatives, one of which was the creation of a large-scale Destination Playspace. This new facility will deliver a distinctive and imaginative play environment that is fully accessible, providing opportunities for children and families of all abilities to enjoy themed play zones, natural features, interactive art, and shaded gathering spaces.
After reviewing potential sites, Bohls Park emerged as the preferred location due to its proximity to downtown development, strong connections to the City’s trail system, existing park amenities, and capacity to host a signature community attraction. The project will serve as a regional draw, encourage active lifestyles, and offer a central gathering space for residents and visitors alike.
The RFQ for design services for the Destination Playspace will be issued this Fall.
Moving forward with Bohls Park as the site supports the City Council’s strategic focus on enhancing quality of life and aligns with the Aspire Pflugerville 2040 Comprehensive Plan goal to provide parks and recreation amenities that meet the needs of a growing and diverse community.
