Title
Introducing a new Pflugerville Animal Shelter program called Pawsitive Reinforcement.
Summary
Starting in July, the Pflugerville Animal Shelter has launched a new program, Pawsitive Reinforcement, to reward pet owners seen in the community with pets on leash, picking up pet waste properly, and taking care of their pets. The pet owner will receive a free one day pass to the Pflugerville Recreation Center and some free pet waste bags.
Similar to the Cool Moves program the Police Department has to reward children spotted being safe over the summer wearing bike helmets and crossing the road at crosswalks, Pawsitive Reinforcement is here to reward responsible pet owners.
“The Pflugerville Animal Control will reward citizens caught in the act of being responsible pet owners with a free package of pet waste baggies and a free one-day pass to the Pflugerville Recreation Center to say thank you for properly managing your pet and taking care of their needs,” Rhonda McLendon said. “Through the program we will be educating pet owners on city and state laws and reminding them to come to the animal shelter to look for lost pets and pets to adopt.”
Actions that may earn a Pawsitive Reinforcement award include:
• catching someone carry their pet across hot blacktop to a cooler grassy surface to protect their feet
• picking up pet waste while walking your dog
• keeping a pet on a leash or harness while walking in city parks
• carrying a water bottle and dog bowl for your dog to give them water when out in the summer heat
Animal Control Officers will be patrolling neighborhoods and parks, and Police Officers are stationed out at Lake Pflugerville for the summer and will be looking for Pawsitive Reinforcement opportunities.
