Review representation and discuss and consider action to appoint a City Councilmember to serve on the Community Advancement Network (CAN) board of directors.
Summary
Community Advancement Network (CAN) is a partnership of government, non-profit, private and faith-based organizations who work together to enhance the social, health, educational and economic well-being of Central Texas. CAN provides a unique, collaborative forum to enhance awareness of issues, strengthen partnerships, connect efforts across issue areas, and facilitate development of collaborative strategies. The City of Pflugerville participates in CAN and has one councilmember on the CAN board of directors.
The CAN board of directors:
Supports the organization’s vision, mission, and purpose.
Approves the strategic direction of the organization and ensures effective organizational planning to achieve the CAN mission.
Selects the Executive Director and supports the Executive Director in fulfilling the CAN mission and role.
Approves the CAN budget, provides financial oversight and ensures there are adequate resources to implement the CAN mission.
Determines, monitors, and strengthens organizational programs and services.
Enhances the organization’s public standing.
Ensures legal and ethical integrity and maintains accountability.

Prior City Council Action
Councilmember Rudy Metayer was appointed on January 9, 2018 to serve on the CAN board of directors. Councilmember Mike Heath served previously.

Action is requested on November 27, 2018.
Fiscal Impact
The City of Pflugerville contributes $500.00 each year to CAN.
