Resolution amending the Youth Advisory Council to open eligibility to Pflugerville ISD students outside of city limits.
Summary
The Youth Advisory Council is a program to teach local high school youth about city government and get them involved in their city. Youth Advisory Council members volunteer at city events, tour city facilities, attend various board and commission meetings, attend the annual Youth Advisory Council Summit, and complete a project for the community. Youth Advisory Council members are currently required to be residents of the City of Pflugerville. This proposed amendment extends eligibility to students in the Pflugerville ISD regardless of whether or not they reside within the city limits. The program requires a minimum of five students and has a maximum of twenty. In previous years the City has received a handful of applicants from students who attend Pflugerville ISD high schools, but do not reside within the city limits. The ability to accept these students who are interested in learning about local government and contributing to the community will allow the program to impact more students, give them more opportunities for projects, and give the program a better opportunity to be successful throughout the years.
Prior City Council Action
The City Council took action on September 18, 2018 to amend the Youth Advisory Council to expand the membership to 20 members.
The City Council took action on August 27, 2019 to amend the Youth Advisory Council to automatically accept eligible applicants.
The City Council took action on April 11, 2023 to amend the Youth Advisory Council to amend to age requirements.
