Title
Conduct a public hearing and consider approving a resolution naming the original wing of the Pflugerville Public Library the Audrey T. Dearing Wing.

Summary
The Friends of the Pflugerville Library, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, submitted a formal request to name the original wing of the Pflugerville Public Library in honor of Audrey T. Dearing, who played a foundational role in establishing and supporting the library over four decades.

Audrey Dearing co-founded the Friends of the Library in 1981 and was instrumental in creating Pflugerville’s first volunteer-run library following the discontinuation of the bookmobile service. She served in multiple leadership roles, coordinated the donation of land for the new library facility, and led the creation of the library’s iconic “Window to the World” stained-glass artwork, symbolizing her inclusive vision. Her efforts helped lay the groundwork for the current facility, and she remained actively involved until her passing in 2024.

The request meets all requirements outlined in the City’s Policy and Procedures for Naming of City Property (Resolution No. 2162-24-10-08-1265). All required documentation, including family consent, letters of community support, and the application fee, were submitted. The Friends of the Library have agreed to cover all costs associated with the naming.

Staff reviewed the application and determined that it meets all criteria for naming a City facility after an individual, as outlined in Section V of the policy. These include:
· A strong, historic connection to the community and the facility proposed for naming;
· Credible, long-term service to the City and its residents; and
· Broad community support for the request.

Per Section F.III of the City’s Naming policy, the City Council serves as the final decision-making authority for naming a City Facility after an individual.
