Title
Approving a construction contract with G2 Construction Services, Inc. in the amount of $140,000 for construction services associated with the Well 6 Switchgear Replacement project, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.
Summary
As part of the fiscal year 2025 budget, the City allocated funding to allow for the replacement of electrical switchgear at one of the City's groundwater production wells. The existing switchgear that provides power to both the well and the booster pumps is more than 40 years old and has reached the end of it's expected useful life. Some of the components of the existing switchgear have become obsolete and City staff have been replacing components as they fail with up-to-date replacement components; however, they are not always intended to be used with the existing lineup that is within the Motor Control Center (MCC) room of the pump station. While the City's water system has been designed to run completely on the surface water treatment plant, the groundwater wells within the water system allow for both flexibility in operation as well as more economical water production as groundwater costs significantly less to produce than surface water.
In order to ensure that the City can continue to maximize the groundwater wells within the water system, City staff worked with G2 Construction Services to develop a scope of supply and replacement to replace the switchgear in the MCC building while also maintaining the same footprint in the building. This will allow for the replacement switchgear to fit inside the building without making any modifications or additions to the building which would have significantly increased the cost to replace the electrical switchgear. As this is a small construction project, the City is utilizing our standard Short Form Construction agreement which has been approved by the City's legal team for projects of this scope. This project was included in the Utility Fund within the Water Dist...
