Authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with Brenntag SW, Inc. for the purchase of aluminum sulfate, a chemical used for treating wastewater in the amount of $.58/gallon; liquid ammonium sulfate which is used at the water treatment plant in the amount of $.086/pound; liquid ammonium sulfate for use in water wells in the amount of $168/drum; salt for the water treatment plant in the amount of $193.00/ton; and sodium hyperchlorite used in water treatment in the amount of $95.00/drum.
Summary
The City of Pflugerville staff solicited sealed bids for the purchase of these chemicals. Advertisements were placed in the Pflugerville Pflag for two consecutive weeks; notice of the bid was on the City's website for the duration of the bidding process; and Texas Bid System was used to engage additional vendor interest. The City received up to four bids for each of these chemicals.
Water and Wastewater staff have checked references. Finance staff verified all information regarding insurance requirements. The City Attorney has reviewed all contract documents. The bid document and tabulation sheets are attached to this agenda item.
Deadline for City Council Action
Action is requested on October 13, 2015. The bidders were notified that this item would be considered at this meeting.
Fiscal Impact
The budget for water and wastewater treatment chemicals is included in the water and wastewater treatment departments in the chemical line item. The anticipated annual expenditure of $134,481.36 for these chemicals is included in those budget items.
