Approving Pflugerville the Trail Capital of Texas Branding.
Summary
The City Council unanimously supported a resolution proclaiming Pflugerville as the Trail Capital of Texas on July 25, 2023.
Branding of the Trail Capital of Texas campaign is a major component of the overall success. The branding will be used on various marketing collateral, incorporated into both digital and print media and parks and trail projects throughout the Pflugerville.The goal of the branding is to build an identity that clearly communicates the benefits of trails as a symbol of the city, encouraging public interest in the natural environment, healthy lifestyles and prioritizing connectivity and accessibility within the community.
The Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed four options at their meeting on Thursday, September 21st, their recommendation (option 2) is below.
Attached, we have provided all four options for your review. Option 2 is the recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Trail Capital of Texas timeline:
Staff plans to follow the same steps and timeline the City of Kyle used to gain the Pie Capital of Texas title, signed by Governor Abbot two years ago.
1. First step is to show proof of concept.
o We used the benchmarking process through our master plan efforts to compare our trails offerings to others in the state.
2. Second step is to inform leadership of our intent.
o Through lunch and learn and presentations to PCDC, the Equity Commission, P&Z, Parks Commission and City Council we have updated elected and appointed officials of our findings and our plan to pursue the Trail Capital of Texas title.
3. Third step is to have City Council confirm and support our intent to pursue the title.
o City Council approved and recognized the pursuit of the Trail Capital of Texas program through a resolution proclaiming Pflugerville as the Trail Capital of Texas.
