Title
Discuss and consider action to approve a PCDC Community Engagement Workforce Grant providing matching funds for a Texas Workforce Commission High Demand Job Training Grant, not to exceed $150,000, to increase capacity and training for the Pflugerville ISD Surgical Instrument Preparation Training Program, In partnership with Workforce Solutions Capital Area, Texas Workforce Commission and Pflugerville Independent School District.
Summary: Annually the PCDC Board and Council approve workforce development funds in the PCDC budget as allowed by Type B corporations. There is a growing demand for skilled health care professionals in central Texas. In response the PFISD aims to expand its health care career academy to include surgical technology pathway. This workforce grant will allow the integration of virtual and augmented reality equipment and tools, focused on sterile processing skill that is highly valued by the industry and secondary education. This equipment will enhance readiness for entry-level careers in nursing, surgical technologies and radiology. See attached grant request for detailed information.
Prior PCDC Board action: The Board and council approved $350K in the PCDC FY25 budget for workforce training. Pflugerville does not have a community college or university institution of higher learning so this fund is used to purchase training equipment as well as fund other workforce and entrepreneurial programming for our residents.
