Title
Approving a Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) performance agreement with the Pflugerville Education Foundation (PEF) for vocational programs including Project Lead the Way and Geometry in Construction.
Summary
The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation in partnership with the Pflugerville Educational Foundation actively approached the Pflugerville Independent School District (PISD) to see if these organizations could help further support vocational courses in Pflugerville to help better prepare PISD students for the workforce upon graduation and better prepare those students seeking higher education. PCDC and PEF identified two vocational programs, Project Lead the Way and Geometry in Construction.
Project Lead the Way provides engineering courses to students at PISD over a four-year period. The students receive dual credit for the courses at Austin Community College and Texas State University. Upon graduation, the students are well prepared to become engineering technicians or to pursue Engineering degrees.
The Geometry in Construction curriculum allows the students to apply geometry instruction from the classroom to the construction site and the students will actually build a structure. These students not only learn geometry faster with better comprehension but learn practical construction skills which will enable them to enter the workforce or support themselves financially while attending college.
