Title

Discuss Pflugerville ISD Enrollment and Facility Trends and Projections.

Summary

Pflugerville ISD held an Annual Planning Meeting on Wednesday, September 28th. This was the first such meeting. The purpose of this item is to summarize existing and projected enrollment and facilities in the district. Various stakeholder entities were invited and participated, including the cities of Pflugerville and Austin, Travis County, Travis County ESD#2, TxDOT, and Oncor. City departments that were represented in the planning meeting were Police, Public Works, Planning, Engineering, and the City Manager's Office.

The City of Pflugerville has been working extensively with the District regarding Safe Routes to School plans, and mitigating the reduction of bus routes for students.

PISD representative, Randy Wilbanks, explained the status of the 2007 Bond funds. Two schools are currently under construction. Elementary #19 is located within the City in Austin's ETJ at the northern end of Harris Ridge Blvd and is projected to open for the 2012-13 academic year, and Middle School #6 is located on Cele Road, just east of Hodde Lane/Weiss Lane. It is projected to open for the 2013-14 academic year. Elementary 20 is also funded through these bonds and its location is to be determined but is anticipated somewhere in the vicinity of the northwest corner of SH 45 and SH 130.

Generally, PISD currently has an enrollment of nearly 23,000 students and is an increase of approximately 1.5% from last year. The enrollment growth rate peaked in 2005-06 at 6.7%.
