Title

Discuss and consider action to adopt the 1849 Park Master Plan Map.

Summary

The initial public involvement for the 1849 Park has been completed.  During this process, four public meetings have been conducted to find out what Pflugerville residents think should be included in the park.  Seven stakeholder meetings were held with representatives of various sports groups and civic interest groups.  An advisory committee has met three times to provide City staff and our park consultant their ideas about the park and to assist City staff and our consultant in the interpretation of the ideas gained through the public input process.

The consensus of the advisory committee is that the City Council should adopt the 1849 Park map as the basis for finalizing the 1849 Park Master Plan which will be brought to the City Council for formal adoption later this year.  The adoption of the 1849 Park map will also allow the City staff and consultant to begin the design of the initial sports complex project with a projected construction bid date in September or October of this year.

Prior Council Action

At the November 10, 2015 City Council meeting, SRA was selected as the most qualified firm from the firms that had submitted SOQs.  A professional services agreement for the master planning and public involvement efforts was presented to the City Council and approved on January 16, 2016.  At the April 26, 2016 Council Meeting, staff presented conceptual design alternatives with funding consideration and the park was formally named the 1849 Park.

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends that the City Council adopts the 1849 Park map, and that this adopted map be the basis for completing the 1849 Park Master Plan and for the design of the initial sports complex project.
