Summary
The City water and wastewater utility has a 2000 Volvo dump truck that has reached the end of its useful life. The Utility uses dump trucks in the field for carrying materials to work sites and hauling away spoils while also using dump trucks for hauling the biosolids from the sludge handling process at the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant. The dump truck that this purchase would remove from service has a manual transmission that not all of our staff can operate. Staff reached out to Santex Truck Centers, LTD to utilize their HGAC (Houston-Galveston Area Council of Governments) contract. HGACBuy is a nationwide, government procurement service that aims to make the governmental procurement process more efficient. All contracts through HGACBuy are awarded by virtue of a public competitive procurement process compliant with state statutes. In an effort to ensure best pricing, staff bid the purchase of this dump truck and received a single that came in at $116,488.00. This capital purchase was outlined in the FY2021 budget within the Utility Maintenance division and was approved by Council to replace this fiscal year.
