Title
Discussion regarding plans for improvements to the current animal shelter.
Summary
This item has been included on the agenda to allow for discussion. The proposition to fund a new animal shelter facility for $10.7 million failed in the recent bond election. As a result, alternatives to address the current animal shelter conditions must be identified. The new dog adoption shelter is substantially complete, but existing facilities must be replaced to comply with current sheltering requirements. The purpose of this item is present a scenario for making phased improvements of the existing animal shelter location in a cost effective manner.
Status
The city has engaged Quorum Architects to prepare a phased approach toward the redevelopment of facilities at the existing Pflugerville Animal Shelter location on Waterbrook Drive. A geotechnical engineering firm has also been engaged to advise the city of any issues associated with the redevelopment of the site from its historical use as a wastewater treatment facility and public works facility.
